The poem “Autumn” by John Clare really sums up my feelings in regard to this season:
“The thistledown’s flying, though the winds are all still,
On the green grass now lying, now mounting the hill,
The spring from the fountain now boils like a pot;
Through stones past the counting it bubbles red-hot.
The ground parched and cracked is like overbaked bread,
The greensward all wracked is, bents dried up and dead.
The fallow fields glitter like water indeed,
And gossamers twitter, flung from weed unto weed.
Hill-tops like hot iron glitter bright in the sun,
And the rivers we’re eying burn to gold as they run;
Burning hot is the ground, liquid gold is the air;
Whoever looks round sees Eternity there.”
During the cooler months it is imperative to keep warm and cosy but also comfortable when walking. Owning a springer spaniel means I can be out in the cold for hours walking across lush fields or down winding country lanes therefore comfortable footwear, a warm coat and staples such as a woolly hat and a scarf are essential. I wanted this outfit to showcase that country walking can be stylish as well as practical. The outfit details can be found at the end of this post with links.
Fur pom-pom hat
Adding a little bit of luxury to a cream knitted hat, this huge fur pom-pom is incredibly soft and the fawn colour really suits the cream backdrop of the woolly hat. Charmingly cosy and comfortable to wear; this is a staple for any chilly day. I purchased this hat at the Chatsworth country fair and is no longer available, however this hat is very similar.
Incredibly soft, cosy, wonderfully warm, toasty and that’s just the few of the reasons why I love this scarf. I purchased this at their trade stand at the Chatsworth country fair but the website has some very similar styles. I adore the colours on the scarf from a rich plum to a soft mink shade.
