10 Ways to make life lovely

Take time to savour the simple pleasures in life; whether its making a cup of tea or enjoying a early morning walk, whatever makes your soul smile: do it! Here is a list of ideas:

Visit a Spring Fair

Markets and fairs are preparing for their annual spring gathering bringing together local businesses celebrating homemade produce, country crafts and all manner of rural pursuits. They are a great place to find unique items; delicious homemade produce from decadent cakes to sweet jams and chutneys, gorgeous gifts and accessories for the home and garden and so much more. The Derbyshire Spring Market takes place on the 19th March 2017 at the beautiful Roundhouse at Derby. For more information click here.

Decorate with pretty flowers.

Daffodils, tulips and hyacinths are abundant this time of the year and add a charming touch to any home. Not just their fragrance and colour, but for me are a sure sign Spring is approaching; warmer days, lighter evenings and birdsong.

Try a new tea.

Wake up to a lovely cup of Clipper’s Rise and Shine tea. An organic blend of lemongrass, lemon verbena and a splash of honey for those early Spring mornings. For these infusions, how long you leave the tea to infuse will result in how strong or weak your prefer your tea. One minute or so will provide a light, delicate flavour while five minutes will result in a stronger taste.

Make a pretty paper pin-wheel.

Super easy to make and requires very little materials; these paper pin wheels make perfect decorations, gift toppers, strung onto bunting and just about anything else. You can find the tutorial here. The pin wheels work best with double-sized patterned paper or sticking two sheets of paper together.

Enjoy an early morning walk.

Research has shown that birdwatching helps decrease anxiety and aids relaxation (Anxiety UK). Personally, I love nothing more than seeing a Robin, a Jay or Blue Tits helping themselves to seeds in the garden. We have a new resident that’s moved in recently: a coal tit and seems quite taken to sitting in our hebe and chirping happily away. I’ve nicknamed him Chirp.

Bake homemake treats for your dog.

Give your pooch a little breakfast bite using ingredients from your pantry. These are perfect for breakfast or as a little treat for your furry friend and best of all, they keep for a long time (best kept in the fridge) so you’ll always have a supply. Recipe here.

Indulge in Spring skin care.

Infuse a sense of Springtime into your skin care with Trill Farm’s Spring Body Conditioner. Packed with herbs grown and picked on the farm, the richly moisturising body conditioner contains coconut, shea butter, rose hips and honey along with sea salt, cleavers herb and the fresh, citrus tang of petitgrain leaving the skin soft and supple; the perfect way to bright skin after the cold winter months.

Brighten the home with yellow crockery.

The ultimate Spring shade. Add a pop of yellow with Emma Bridgewater’s new Yellow Wallflower collection featuring delightful daffodil motifs from plates to mugs and cake stands to vases and are the perfect way to brighten up any kitchen and dining table.

Scent the home

Add a touch of homeliness with a crackling candle. Thatched Candles offer an array of homemade delicious scents including lemon curd and chocolate orange and the wood wick allows for a calming, crackling sound effect; perfect to listen to after a long day. Once used, the jar can be washed and used as a handy container.
